Giants waste another late lead, lose to Jets in OT

That was enough to push the Chiefs to 7-5, and slaps the cuffs on the 5-7 Raiders’ hopes of jumping back into the wild card race. Eli Manning finished 18 of 34 for 297 yards.

“Don’t sit back because the world thinks it’s not getting done”, he said.

It also perfectly summed up what this season has become for the two.

This is a team with no sense of entitlement, which made what happened Sunday particularly delicious. “He’s 500 pounds [305 pounds, actually], and I went after him for you”.

The game turned on a couple plays late in the third quarter. “Basically, all of those things”. One team was chasing the wildcard and the other a division title. The interception he threw allowed the Jets to return the ball out of field-position Hell. This season, they have a big edge over everyone else in the league in that they have nine home games this season. Drew Brees ties the game with:36 remaining with his seventh TD pass. Kai Forbath wins it with a 50-yard field goal on the final snap after a Marcus Murphy punt return and a facemask penalty against punter Brad Wing set up the Saints.

These are just some of the areas that require improvement if the Giants are to reverse their fortunes and succeed in the final four games.

But Sunday was yet another example of how the Giants have handed the season away. This time the Jets beat them in overtime 23-20 after they wasted a 20-10 fourth quarter lead after pretty much keeping the Jets in check most of the day. Very simply, at that point in the game, Coughlin needed to dictate that the Jets score two touchdowns to win, instead of scoring a touchdown and field goal to tie. Thus, Coughlin would have elected to kick the field goal which would have put the Giants up by three scores.

Coughlin repeatedly stresses the importance of finishing games productively, but the players haven’t been able to execute with the game on the line.

“Well it’s December, you got two teams fighting for the right to continue to play into January”, Jenkins said.

In many respects, these two teams showed us the same stuff they’d shown us all season long.

The point here is that entering an offseason in which for once the Jets will be the tranquil, settled franchise in town there is a warm glow of competence surrounding the decision-making team. “And I will fight to the end for her”. I just tried to take it out in between the lines. “We’ve had too many close games that went the wrong way at the end of the game…. It’s not any one individual, it’s not any one group; everyone contributes”.

“I asked him, ‘Do you want me to hold my praise?’ “Marshall recalled after the game”. In his past three games, he has thrown 11 touchdown passes with no picks and he’s also run for a touchdown.

One minute was left to play.

Marshall, who joked about the exchange after the game and was quick to point out that Jenkins apologized, said he won’t let anyone get away with bringing up his wife.

“Somebody’s got to make a play in order to get out of that jam, and it doesn’t take a lot”.

I don’t think management believes in the Tom Coughlin style or effect anymore. “And we did, and we actually checked out of a line stunt that would have put someone right in front of where he came; it’s craziness”. The Giants are losing savants, charting previously unexplored routes to fail city. The Jets’ second straight win has given them control of their playoff destiny with four games left. The Jets defense then forced a three-and-out, giving Fitzpatrick the ball with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter.

“I told him they’re going to miss it”, Marshall said after game. “We rallied up together”. Just knowing that we can be methodical a little bit and get a nice little drive going not trying to get it all at once. They’ve managed to do that in four of their 12 games.
