Giants won’t play Eli Manning in preseason opener

Backup Ryan Nassib will be start in the Giants’ preseason debut against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Friday night.

Miami also has a new head coach in Adam Gase, who is a former offensive coordinator for the Broncos.

Wide receiver Victor Cruz has been ruled out with a groin injury suffered earlier in the week. Miami made a running back switch with the Houston Texans as well as they signed former Houston back Arian Foster who when healthy can still be one of the best backs in the National Football League but a slew of injuries over the last couple of seasons has really derailed the career of the former Tennessee Volunteers back.

Robinson missed practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Wynn was sidelined for Wednesday’s practice.

McAdoo was a solid choice by Big Blue as he already has experience wokring with veteran quarterback Eli Manning. LB J.T. Thomas (hamstring) and DT Jay Bromley (ankle) remain on PUP and will not play.

This is definitely a departure from the way the Giants operated under Coughlin, who always had Manning play in the preseason opener and sometimes sit him for the preseason finale. “And that starts tonight”, McAdoo added.

“I made the decision not to play Eli tonight”, McAdoo said in a statement released late Friday morning by the team. He said backup Ryan Nassib will be the starter and that Logan Thomas will also see action.
