Gingrich, Fox News suspend contributor agreement amid Trump VP speculation
Jay Wallace, executive vice president of news at Fox, said Tuesday the network thought it was best to stop Gingrich as a contributor to avoid any conflicts of interest.

The decision comes amidst speculation that Gingrich may be tapped as presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, which could give the appearance of network impartiality or conflicts of interest.
Trump is expected to name a running mate later this week.
Newt Gingrich and the list of other potential candidates will likely learn soon who Donald Trump picks as his running mate. He said Pence’s relationships within the Republican establishment would allow Trump to unite the party, while Gingrich offers television skills and appeal to the base.
Trump has said that if Gingrich is not the vice presidential choice, the former speaker will have some role in his possible future administration.
“I will be making a decision over the next three- to four-day period of time”, he said, “and I think it will be a decision that will be a very good decision for a lot of people”, he added.
The meeting took place just a day after the conservative network suspended ties with Gingrich because of “intense media speculation” over the prospect that the former reality TV host would choose him as his running mate.
Left largely unmentioned: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who also spoke to Trump about the vice presidency via phone on Wednesday, and Sen.

‘I’ll tell you one thing, folks: I’m not saying it’s Newt, but if it’s Newt, nobody’s going to be beating him in those debates. “He has his loyalties to Fox and he has his loyalties to himself, to his ambitions to be veep”. Gingrich ran for president in 2012. Gingrich was brought on as a FOX News contributor in October 2015 after being a CNN contributor before that. He was a CNN political commentator until joining Fox past year.
