Girls’ GCSE grades predicted to be ‘a long way ahead’ of boys
It will measure pupils progress across eight subjects – English, maths, three of the English Baccalaureate subjects (sciences, computer science, geography, history and languages) and three further subjects.

There were more than 350,000 GCSE entries among these pupils, re-taking English and maths after Year 11, up by a quarter on last year.
The survey of 1,000 GCSE students across the United Kingdom, which was commissioned by social enterprise Under Age Sales, also found that a further 13 per cent of teens from Coventry will ask their parents to buy drinks for them.
As well as more pupils re-taking exams beyond the age of 16, it is expected that there will be a continuing decline in pupils taking exams a year early. The content and structure of the new GCSEs are very different from those they are replacing.

Thursday’s results include the largest-ever volume of students resitting English and maths – a 26% increase on past year.
A third wave of 1-9 graded GCSEs will be taught from September 2017 with exams in 2019.
Courses will be taken over the full two years, rather than by modular assessment.
Foundation and higher-tier papers for students in different ability ranges will be phased out.
These are English language, Welsh language, English literature, Welsh literature, mathematics and numeracy and mathematics.
David Allison, founder and managing director of GetMyFirstJob, said: “With over 700,000 youngsters due to receive their GCSE exam results this week and with predictions that the percentage of students receiving the top grades will drop for the fifth year running, too few students are being provided with information and guidance on alternative avenues to further education”.

The helpline is open every day until Wednesday, August 31. There are over 2,000 BTEC qualifications across 16 sectors.
In Wales, you can leave school on the last Friday in June, as long as you will be 16 by the end of that school year’s summer holidays.
It is best to open them in school, but do it where you feel most comfortable.
