Girls Raise $10000 for Dallas Victims with Lemonade Stand

The shooting, in which 25-year-old Micah Johnson allegedly killed five police officers and injured nine others at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, according to The New York Times, has led to an outpouring of support for the Dallas Police Department. They enlisted their friends, Emmy and Lily Roberts, to help out, and even asked their moms bake cookies and brownies to sell as well.

“We felt really bad for all the victims’ families”, Lauren said, explaining why the girls started the lemonade stand. ‘We just really feel that every little penny counted, ‘ Landry told NBC DFW.

Lauren Roach, 12, and Landry Nelon, 11, raised $10,000 for the Dallas shooting victims. “They didn’t want lemonade, they didn’t want anything”.

A church matched a portion of the donations, and they soon had a $10,000 check to drop off at the police association for the officers and their families.

On Monday, just after two days of running the lemonade stand, the children presented a $10,000 check to the Dallas Police Association.

The Dallas Police Association hasn’t calculated all of the donations, but it’s estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at this point. “So a part of us died as well, and we want to lend our helping hand and support to Dallas [police] and all of Dallas to let them know they’re not alone”. Southwest Airlines donated $75,000 and the Houston Police Department donated $20,000.

‘We’ll heal, it’s just going to take some time’. Some of the money will help support the families of slain officers Brent Thompson, Patrick Zamarripa, Michael Krol, Lorne Ahrens and Michael Smith. When it was clear authorities weren’t able to rationalize with the shooter, they sent in a remote-controlled robot with a bomb police detonated.
