‘Well, I think what he’s doing is exaggerating, right?’ Giuliani said.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani confirmed that some in Brooklyn and Queens celebrated the September 11th attacks, but said the numbers were nowhere near the “thousands” claimed by Donald Trump.

“When that reporter said, “Look I never said there were thousands of people”, then Trump kind of went after this guy, made some funky hand gestures”.

“We did have some reports of people celebrating that day as the towers were coming down”, Giuliani told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on Tuesday’s New Day.

In the original interview, Acevedo walked outside her home and pointed to a spot where she said she saw about youths about 13 years old celebrating by hitting public property with sticks and rocks and chanting, “Burn, America!”

Trump supporters, in turn, cited an MTV News story that allegedly covered the “celebrating Muslims” in 2001.

The mayor of Jersey City, which Mr Trump named, said no such thing happened and accused the Republican of “shameful politicising”. A mere three days after 9/11, columnist Siegel – in the pages of the New York Post – is saying flatly that “the Arabs of nearby Paterson, N.J.” were out there celebrating “as they received word of the murderous attacks in New York and Washington”. ‘If thousands of people were demonstrating and he saw it somewhere on television, there must be some tape of it somewhere. Let him show the evidence of it, ‘ Giuliani said. If it shows up it will corroborate him.

Rudy Giuliani tried to assist Donald Trump but only discredited the billionaires claim that'thousands of American Muslims were cheering on 9/11
