Giuliani: I Didn’t Forget 9/11, I Was Using ‘Abbreviated Language’

Rudy Giuliani seemed to have a developed a case of selective memory while introducing Donald Trump and Mike Pence at a rally in OH yesterday.

“I’m not there to give a major 45-minute policy address”, Giuliani told the New York Daily News.

“Under those eight years, before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack inside the United States”, said the man who touts his performance as mayor of NY during the 9/11 attacks as his main accomplishment.

“You speak in somewhat abbreviated language”, Giuliani said.

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani speaks before Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday.

It wasn’t the first time that Giuliani had made the outrageously false claim that there were no terror attacks on USA soil during the Bush presidency. In a way that you wouldn’t be asking me this question today?

Before the remark, Giuliani was talking about the September 11 terror attacks. In fact, his discussions of the attacks were so common that Vice President Joe Biden once said of him there were “only three things he mentions in a sentence: A noun, a verb and 9/11”.

Giuliani had said he bumped his head after falling in the shower, raising speculation that a head injury may have contributed to the statement. Giuliani clearly meant there wasn’t an attack during the 2001-2009 period after 9/11 and not the entirety of the eight years before Obama took office.

Giuliani’s oversight was quickly mocked on social media and in his hometown newspaper, the New York Daily News.

This led to some hyperventilating on Twitter from outlets saying that Giuliani was ignoring 9/11 (something Giuliani is normally not accused of doing).

“In the context in which I said it, where I explained the two prior attacks, including the attack during the Bush administration, of course I do”, Giuliani said.
