Give back: Volunteer with local charities this holiday season
The Salvation Army has been raising money through its annual red kettle donation drive since November 9.

“People that can’t get out, either because of the snow or just physical elements, or people that just don’t want to get out because of whatever reason – we’re just going to deliver to them”, Aird said.
“We have so many people in Fremont who are so willing to give some of their time to make this a successful event every year”, North said.
They hope to raise $170,000 this holiday season. “And I chose to come out here and help”, stated Girl Scout Alea Hudson. “Our volunteer base is dwindling”.
On Christmas Day itself, the Salvation Army gathers to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Sports clubs, university groups and any other groups are also welcome.
“So many of us don’t carry change, don’t carry dollars in our pockets anymore”. “They are being generous and opening their doors, so we feel obligated to fill those shifts”.
But the Salvation Army could use a little help.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer with the Salvation Army?
“There are good people everywhere”, he said. “We work with organizations such as local schools, CCM and Toys for Tots to make sure each family is served by only one agency to ensure that we can serve all who are in need this Christmas”. “To get to that goal, we need bell ringers”, said Esmeralda Casas, the Salvation Army spokeswoman.
“Everyone should take the time out to pause and think about those who are less fortunate and just remember today as God would do us”, said Jerry bowman, Shreveport city councilman.
“My parents were Salvation Army officers and their parents before them”.
