As news of the attacks broke, Glasgow advised their supporters not to travel. “We expect more information about a possible rearrangement and will get back to you as soon as possible”, said Racing 92 in a statement. “We’ll provide further updates when we get them”, they tweeted.
The Warriors had travelled to France for their Champions Cup opener against Racing, which had been due to take place at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Colombe outside Paris on Saturday afternoon.
Glasgow coach Gregor Townsend tweeted: “Really sad to hear what’s happening in this attractive city”.
The message was passed to the heads of sports federations as the French capital reeled from an unprecedented series of shootings and bombings, including suicide attacks outside the Stade de France national stadium while France were playing Germany in an global football match.
Tuesday’s planned friendly between England and France at Wembley is under discussion and may be called off.
“It is a very serious and tragic matter”, a Football Association spokesman said.
“The FA sends its deep condolences to the victims of this tragic event but to say anything else would be inappropriate”.
