GM Alderson says Tebow signing not about T-shirt revenue

The 29-year-old Tebow agreed Thursday to a minor league contract that includes a $100,000 signing bonus.

Tebow acknowledged that being successful in baseball won’t be easy.

General Manager Sandy Alderson reiterated that the team’s decision to sign Tim Tebow is not a gimmick to sell merchandise.

Alderson said Friday it wouldn’t be practical to make such a big commitment to Tebow only as an attempt to market Tebow’s name. “We are extremely intrigued with the potential that Tim has”. Aside from the age, this is a classic player-development opportunity for us. “As an organization, we’re going to provide that development opportunity for Tim”. “But I’m looking forward to putting in the work and I felt like this was the best fit”.

Former University of Florida Heisman Trophy victor Tim Tebow is trying his hand at professional baseball, and the New York Mets are making their dream of actually selling jerseys come true as well. Tebow is 29 years old, much older than the typical baseball prospect.

While at the camp Tebow will be working on learning new positions and the fundamentals of baseball, which is an educational experience that could help improve his throwing motion for pickup football games at future Tebow family reunions.

Former NFL star Tebow will reportedly begin his professional baseball career in the team’s instructional league, which will run from September 18 to October 8 in Port Lucie, Florida. “We have always been supportive of Tim’s athletic pursuits”.
