GM discourages use of windshield wipers in SUV recall
General Motors is recalling its 2016 model year, Lambda-platformed full-size crossovers – the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia – over a potential issue with the windshield wiper motor that can result in a fire.

According to GM there is an electrical short in a few of their SUV’s that can cause the wiper motor to catch fire.
The company is replacing the defective wipers for free and will pick up the recalled vehicles if weather prevents owners from bringing them in; they will also provide rentals if parts are not available. Most are in North America.
The problem was reportedly discovered at the plant where the vehicles are made in Lansing, Michigan. The problem was found when one of the motors overheated at a GM factory. The plant’s quality manager reported the problem on September 21 through GM’s “Speak up for Safety” program, and GM began investigating five days later.
Owners of the affected automobiles have been requested to not use their entrance windshield wipers in any respect till their automobiles are repaired.

If you happen to share the same address with a General Motors dealership employee, now may be an excellent time to step into a new vehicle. Parts are being shipped and will be used first to fix customer vehicles and those that have been sold.
