GM recalling almost 780K SUVs | Instant Recall
General Motors is recalling about 686,000 midsize crossover utility vehicles made between 2007 and 2012 because their rear liftgates could fall off and injure people.

GM said the gas struts which hold up the liftgates “may prematurely wear”, making them unable to support the liftgate’s weight.
Other vehicles included in the recall are the 2007-’12 GMC Acadia and 2007-’10 Saturn Outlook. “It may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury”. The company said it was aware of 56 reported injuries but no crashes or fatalities related to the issue. Following the ignition-switch recall, two more employees brought attention to the liftgate problems via GM’s Speak Up For Safety campaign.
The recall affects models manufactured during specific windows of time. A “Prop Rod Recovery” system is designed to prevent such behavior by controlling liftgate descent, however the software is not properly calibrated to handle all failure scenarios. The affected Chevrolet Traverses were built from July 6, 2008 to February 29, 2012.
