Go-Go gone: Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers traded to Houston Astros

An emotional Wilmer Flores, shown in the dugout late in Wednesday night’s New York Mets game against the San Diego Padres, shed tears when erroneously thinking he had been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. He raved about Gomez. Everybody here is going to love him once they get to know him. That offense, combined with stellar play in center field, and the Astros just got a lot better.

At some point, Flores heard he had been traded and started to break down crying when he went back out to the field. “I didn’t want to make that scene out there”, he said. I said, ‘Why?’ There’s no reason, ” Flores told reporters. “I’m going to work it and wherever they send me or beyond this day, or not, I’m going to continue to play my game and have fun and have this smile that I have”.

Houston’s move came a week after the Astros obtained top starter Scott Kazmir from the Oakland Athletics.

Santana, 22, was good in Triple-A Fresno this year, hitting.

You have to give up value to get value and it appears both teams did well in filling their needs with this trade. In the end, we did have a deal done. Other reports say the Mets wanted the Brewers to pay part of Gomez’s salary and backed out when Milwaukee said no. Phillips, 21, was a prized piece in the trade for Milwaukee – so much so that Melvin said he was “supposedly untouchable”. Considering the talent level of Gomez and his reasonable contract, the Brewers understandably declined to put any cash into the deal. “He was supposedly an untouchable”.

Middle-of-the-game trades are nothing new in the Major League Baseball, as last-minute deals are made as the deadline closes. “I don’t know who the two are”. He will earn $9 million in 2016.

As for the Marlins, it was another familiar salary dump. Also the Marlins have traded pitcher Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers for three minor leaguers. 284 with 24 homers and 73 RBIs. He has a 3-4 record in 19 appearances with a 5.10 ERA in between single A Lancaster and Double A Corpus Christi.
