However, he did go on to explain that the changes he has implemented have been fundamental in Chanel’s success and that the company is doing “20 or 30 times” better now than it did when he took the helm.

A smartphone app makes the exhibition spring to life with words from Geraldine Chaplin, who has portrayed Coco Chanel on film.
The showcase, which takes over the entire of London’s Saatchi Gallery, is pretty huge in scale, taking you on a journey through founder Coco Chanel’s career right up to the current day.
On display are couture gowns by Lagerfeld and a re-edition of the only jewelry collection Coco Chanel designed in 1932.
The fabric-lined sensory room allows visitors to touch and wander through real Chanel couture fabrics, from delicate silks to its famous bouclé tweeds, while artisans pin and sew on shadow-paper screens. The honest stills which embody the likes of Keira Knightley, Lily-Rose Depp & Lara Stone, see the beauties modelling the exclusive 1932 Bijoux de Diamants jewelry assortment. “And if you start being against the fashion of the time, you have a problem”, he added.
Who was there: Guests included Karl Lagerfeld, Lindsay Lohan, Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne, Lily Collins, Poppy Delevingne, Alice Dellal, Lily Allen, Georgia May Jagger, Edie Campbell, Olympia Campbell, Vanessa Paradis, Stella Maxwell, and Julianne Moore. In addition, daily workshops throughout its duration will reveal more about Chanel craftsmanship, teaching visitors how to embroider and work with feathers, while an olfactive workshop will offer insight into the six key elements of Chanel No. 5. Pavlovsky, as charming and aimiable as you could ever hope a CEO to be – albeit with a politician’s knack for always saying only as much as he wants to – is certainly part of this move to modernity, although the choice, he insists, is a no-brainer. One of many highlights of the exhibition is a portrait collection depicting numerous Chanel muses.
