Godin may miss Atletico Madrid’s match against Levante

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola saw his team maintain their winning run at home in the Champions League thanks to goals from Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski – but was disappointed to exit at the semi-final stage again.

Atletico could face their city neighbours once more in the showpiece if they can prevail against Manchester City in Wednesday’s second semi-final, but Griezmann has called for calm.

Atletico Madrid are not seeking revenge for their 2014 Champions League final defeat but instead want to write a new chapter in the club’s history with their first European Cup after getting past Bayern Munich.

Bayern lost the semi-final first leg 1-0 in Spain, and went out on away goals, despite beating Atletico 2-1 in the return match in Munich on Tuesday. Often you only realise how good someone was when he is already gone.

Guardiola, who joins Manchester City next season, has often had run-ins with the club’s medical staff. Noted doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt left the club in April 2015 after nearly 40 years, after relations with the Spanish coach cooled. We needed a little luck but we didn’t get it. We tried but we couldn’t do it. I don’t think Real Madrid proved they’re superior to City.

Torres, who rejoined his boyhood club Atletico after disappointing spells with Chelsea and AC Milan, said: “It was very intense”.

“I really have to say we played against the best team I have faced in my whole career, it was unbelievable how they played”, said Simeone.

Guardiola is said to have been angered by the number of muscular injuries suffered by his players, and with their slow recovery time. I think we deserve to be in the Champions League next year, as in the whole year we have been in a Champions League spot from the beginning to the end. “Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern Munich, they’re better but beware, because we’re there”.

“They are going to be dreaming about us right up to the final”.

“We just did not achieve our goals”. Today I was lucky and I saved the penalty. It would have been fair for either of the teams to reach the final. The missed penalty gave us life.
