Monarch, the organization that discovered Godzilla in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 film, will represent the tiny humans in this new mythology, which will play out – at least initially – over three movies. Pictures-the studios behind 2014’s smash hit Godzilla-will reunite for a giant monster franchise that will culminate in a dream smackdown between Godzilla and King Kong. CEO Kevin Tsujihara. “It’s great to be able to revisit these characters and help create a franchise with so many creative possibilities for filmmakers”.
Project Monarch’s next mission will take place in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, when its expedition leads a small crew to discover the giant gorilla. Godzilla 2, which will feature Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah, will land on June 8, 2018. In September, Legendary moved Kong: Skull Island from Universal to Warner Bros., laying out the groundwork for a shared cinematic monster universe. For a monster movie fan like me, this is very damn exciting.
“Godzilla 2” will follow in 2018, building on the 2014 installment of the franchise that starred Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, according to the film companies.

We even added to the rumor, saying that Pacific Rim could be added to the mix in the theme parks, which was quickly shot down when Pacific Rim 2 was delayed indefinitely. Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson will play the leading roles, supported by the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Toby Kebbell, and Corey Hawkins, to name a few. Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly wrote the script and Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is directing. Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod will executive produce. Understandably, Universal wasn’t thrilled about laying groundwork for a future Warner Bros. film in their King Kong movie. It seems this will be Godzilla 3, as it is coming in 2020.
