Goffin to open against Edmund in Belgium v Britain Davis Cup final

Andy Murray is determined not to see Great Britain let the chance of a rare Davis Cup success slip through their fingers in the final.

Security for the tie has been beefed up, with explosives experts, sniffer dogs and a no-bags policy in operation at the 13,000-seater Flanders Expo venue, following the terror alert in Brussels at the weekend.

“Considering the fact that Andy Murray is in the team, everything he has done for Great Britain this season in Davis Cup, it’s fair to say that Great Britain is favourite with him in the team”, Djokovic said, reports Tennis.

Saturday’s doubles will feature Steve Darcis and Kimmer Coppejans against the Andy and brother Jamie.

Meanwhile, world No. 16 David Goffin, who also won all of his matches in the Davis Cup tournament, will lead Belgium against the Brits. Obviously you’ll flip it the other way.

Team captain Leon Smith is set to announce his decision before Thursday’s draw.

Five men have made their first debuts for their country in the Davis Cup final – Jimmy Arias (1984), Richard Fromberg (1990), Pete Sampras (1991), Paul-Henri Mathieu (2002) and Feliciano Lopez (2003). “I’ll just deal with it, if I play”.

“It’s a great opportunity to promote the sport in the United Kingdom and hopefully if we can get the win at the weekend that would be huge for tennis”.

“I would want my best players playing in as many matches as possible so I would expect Goffin to play in the doubles – I am sure he will get asked if he wants to play”, he said.

Britain will try to win the competition for the first time since 1936 when they face Belgium in Ghent from Friday. I know they put in a lot of work even before that. Kyle Edmund is the likely second unit to play for the singles, while double specialist Dominic Ingot serves as backup for Jamie.
