Fox News anchors Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade tried to belittle the overwhelming response to Mr. Khan’s speech by erroneously claiming that “no networks covered” Patricia Smith’s speech blaming her son’s death at Benghazi on Clinton at the Republican National Convention.
“I can not emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement”, McCain said in a lengthy statement. Leading Republicans including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued statements in support of the family.
Now, the families of 23 other slain United States soldiers have called on Trump to apologize for his “repugnant and personally offensive” remarks.
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for United States president, accused Trump of scapegoating Humayun’s parents.
Blunt has given Trump a tepid endorsement, but is among a number of Republican senators running for re-election trying to distance themselves from the nominee.
The father of a Marine, Pence said Sunday that he and Trump believe Capt. Khan is a hero and his family “should be cherished by every American”.
She added: “Donald Trump said I had nothing to say. I do”. At last week’s Democratic National Convention, his father, Khizr Khan, criticized Trump’s proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country.
Both Khans forcefully denounced terrorism Sunday, and Ghazala Khan said Trump is ignorant when it comes to understanding Muslims.
He implied that his wife Ghazala Khan was forbidden to speak: “She had nothing to say”.
Ghazala, for her part, has publicly spoken out twice about her son since the convention, appearing on MSNBC Friday night and then publishing an editorial in the Washington Post Sunday. “If he studied the real Islam and Koran, all the ideas he gets from terrorists would change, because terrorism is a different religion”, she wrote.
After summing up the events of the DNC, Oliver arrived at Trumps comments about the Khans, at which point he made his disgust known in no uncertain terms.
Throughout the storm, Trump showed no indication of changing course on his Twitter feed, one of his campaign’s main avenues of communicating with voters. “Am I not allowed to respond?”
And top officials with the Koch operation released a statement questioning Trump’s “facts” after Trump bragged in a tweet that he had snubbed them. That left Oliver, the husband of an Iraq War veteran, fuming.
Trump first tweeted that “Captain Khan, killed 12 years ago, was a hero, but this is about RADICAL ISLAMIC TERROR and the weakness of our “leaders” to eradicate it!”
The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee says he’s dismayed by the attacks on the parents of an Army captain killed in Iraq. He said: “I work very, very hard”. John McCain and callously said “I like people that weren’t captured”.
– John Lewis (@repjohnlewis)There’s only one way to talk about Gold Star parents: with honor and respect. “What they’ve sacrificed is just unbelievable”. “They are self-serving half-truths from a self-serving half man who has somehow convinced half the country that sacrifice is the same thing as success”. After he joined Trump’s ticket, Pence said he was supportive of Trump’s immigration policies and that Trump’s phrasing “didn’t come out quite right”.

Trump broke a political and societal taboo over the weekend when he criticized Khizr and Ghazala Khan. “And one doesn’t know where the bottom is”, Clinton told reporters in Ohio. Khan questioned whether Trump had read the Constitution.
