Golden Girl: Biles ends historic Olympics with 4th gold

On Tuesday, Biles got a kiss on her cheek from the real-life Efron, who is in Rio for the summer Olympics as well. That’s it. Better to just leave things vague.

“I think that I’ll take some time off, take a break and then we’ll come back to the gym and kind of see how it goes”. Eight days. Five medals.

The team member most expected to compete in 2017 is Laurie Hernandez, the first U.S. Olympic gymnast born in the 2000s.

A day after a slipped foot off the balance beam dashed the American’s hopes of leaving Rio with a record haul of five golds for a female gymnast, she was back to her hip-shaking best to clinch the floor title with 15.966 points, ahead of team mate Aly Raisman. She took bronze. She becomes the fifth woman to win four gold at the same Olympics joining Hungarian Agnes Keleti (1956), Soviet Larissa Latynina (1956), Czech Vera Caslavska (1968) and Romanian Ecaterina Szabo (1984).

“You’re kidding me? The country which has never finished above China is about to”, state news agency Xinhua said on its official English-language Twitter account on Monday, alongside a photo of the medals tally.

“I said, “I’m your last gymnast ever” and she (Marta) said, “I don’t want to think about it, I’m going to start crying”. “I would not bet against Simone Biles if she wants to keep doing it, being one of those people”.

The U.S.is so deep many have said it could have fielded a B team that contended for a silver medal in the team competition here.

This year’s USA women’s team was the first to include a returning Olympian (two, actually) since Sydney 2000.

Biles won the floor exercise Tuesday for her fourth gold of the games – only the fourth Olympic gymnast to do so. “Laurie said before floor today, if you get silver you’re the best because Simone doesn’t count”.

Men’s all-around silver medalist Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine took gold on parallel bars, followed by Leyva and David Belyavskiy of Russian Federation. I know our team has.

They are the power couple of Track and Field: Defending decathlon gold medalist Ashton Eaton from Bend, Ore., and his wife Brianne Theiesen-Eaton, who just won bronze in the Heptathlon for Canada. Fabian Hambuechen of Germany finally reached the top step of the podium in the Olympics by claiming the high bar title.

Levya came out to take his second silver behind 28-year-old Hambuechen with Britain’s Nile Wilson taking bronze (15.466).
