The two films – split in separate categories by Globes organisers, meaning they were not competing against each other – are now in prime position as Hollywood’s annual awards season heats up ahead of the Oscars on February 28. Who else but a victor would be coming down the aisle directly after a name was announced?

The two were spotted chatting with each other as they celebrated their respective wins at the Creative Artist Agency’s Golden Globes after party in West Hollywood’s Sunset Tower Hotel, reported Aceshowbiz.

“I know how lucky I am to do this for a living, and when people go see movies, it’s kind of rare”.

Despite these numbers, it seems the HFPA wants Gervais to host the 2017 Golden Globes. It was her first nomination and first win.

-Actress, Musical or Comedy: Rachel Bloom, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”. While not among the best dressed, Jennifer Lawrence was among the most talked about both before and during the show with more than 80,000 Golden Globe related tweets. Veteran actress Maura Tierney was the same, winning best supporting actress-drama for The Affair.

Lady Gaga shed tears as she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a made-fortelevision limited series or movie American Horror Story: Hotel.

In a town where you are only worth as much as your last picture, prizes are a valued currency, even ones that “some confused old journalist wanted to give you to meet you in person and take a selfie”, as Gervais said from the podium on Sunday. Sam Smith also won his first Globes for Writings on the Wall, the theme song for the latest James Bond movie Spectre.

Best Original Score went to Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.

DiCaprio received a pat on the back from producer Harvey Weinstein and a standing ovation from the crowd as he collected the award for best actor in a drama for The Revenant.

Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) won the best supporting actress and actor respectively.

Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement honoree Denzel Washington also fumbled his way through his speech, which generally serves as a poignant respite in an otherwise irreverent evening. Awards favorite Spotlight didn’t win anything.
