And while their drama choices – Room, Spotlight, The Revenant, Carol and Mad Max: Fury Road – are all films with plenty of Oscar talk around them, their comedies – Trainwreck, Spy, The Big Short, Joy and The Martian – include a couple of popular but not necessarily award-seeking films.

Transparent, an Amazon original, and Netflix’s Orange is the New Black were both nominated for best series (musical or comedy) alongside traditional TV offerings, with additional acting nominations for Judith Light (Transparent) and Uzo Abuda (Orange is the New Black).

Actors America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Angela Bassett (L-R) react as they look over notes before announcing nominations for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California December 10, 2015.

So did Sylvester Stallone for “Creed”, giving him a nomination for the same character (Rocky Balboa) who first earned him a Globe nomination in 1976 for “Rocky”.

Redmayne was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award earlier this week and is expected to be in the Best Actor Oscar race when the nominations are announced at the beginning of next week.

Not only that, but only Game of Thrones got a Globe nomination past year, despite the fact that the other four shows that did – The Good Wife, House of Cards, The Affair and Downton Abbey – are all still on. In 2012, Jessica Lange won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries, or Television Film. The Revenant and biopic Steve Jobs also landed four nominations each.

Streaming series from Netflix (which led television with nine nods), Amazon and Hulu dominated the TV side of the Globes, which jumped all over the dial. Six shows tied for the most nominations: “Fargo”, “Mr. Robot”, “Outlander”, “Transparent”, “American Crime” and “Wolf Hall”. Truthfully, I think all the nominations do. CW’s “Jane the Virgin” leading lady Gina Rodriguez – last year’s victor – and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” star Rachel Bloom are pitted against each other in the musical or comedy actress category.

The nominees for best animated feature film are: “Anomalisa”, “Inside Out”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “The Peanuts Movie” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie”.

Also nominated in that category was Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn“, a 1950s tale about immigration.
