Alejandro Inarritu’s frontier epic “The Revenant” also received four nominations, including best picture – drama and best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. The Golden Globes will air Sunday, January 10, 2016, 8 to 11 p.m., hosted by Ricky Gervais, who is sure to insult the HFPA, who are at least good sports about the whole thing. The 2016 Golden Globe nominees were publicized Thursday via live-stream this morning by Chloe Grace Moretz, Dennis Quaid, America Ferrara and Angela Bassett, and included some surprises, as well as some stars getting passed over that had been expected to get a nomination. The Globes have acquired some prestige since their early days when they voted Pia Zadora breakthrough star for her poorly received film “Butterfly” over Kathleen Turner’s acclaimed performance in “Body Heat” and Elizabeth McGovern in “Ragtime”.
Some of the actress’ co-stars have shared Gaga’s joy over the nomination.
As if determined to avoid the “do any of you even watch TV?” reaction that inevitably accompanies the Round Up of Usual Suspects known as the Emmy nominations, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association produced a jaw-dropping list of Golden Globe nominees on Thursday.
The nominees for best actor in a TV comedy series: Aziz Ansari, “Master of None”; Gael Garcia Bernal, “Mozart in the Jungle”; Rob Lowe, “The Grinder”; Patrick Stewart, “Blunt Talk”; Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent”.
Streaming pioneer Netflix led the overall television nominations with eight nods, including two each for drug cartel drama “Narcos” and “Orange is the New Black”, a comedy set in a women’s prison.
The drama side of television was unexpected, too: Narcos on Netflix, Outlander on Starz, Empire on Fox, Mr. Robot on US, and Game of Thrones on HBO.
This marks the first Golden Globe nomination for Caitriona Balfe (Money Monster, Now You See Me) who stars as Claire Randall in “Outlander”.
The 2015 Golden Globe nominations have been announced, and the list of nominees provides irrefutable proof of the growing status of digital-only content within the world of television and film. “The Danish Girl” was highlighted for its actors – both Eddie Redmayne and Vikander got Globe nominations – but the film and director didn’t get nominations.
– Rami Malek on his family’s response to his nomination for best actor in a TV drama for “Mr. Robot”. “The last time I was at the Golden Globes, I needed a chaperone – I’m so excited to be there for a film that means this much to me”.
“Spotlight”, “Trumbo”, “Straight Outta Compton”, “The Big Short” and “Beasts of No Nation” landed nominations for best ensemble performance, SAG’s version of best picture. They are: “American Crime”, “American Horror Story: Hotel”, “Fargo”, “Flesh and Bone”, and “Wolf Hall”.

Other nominations for Netflix were, as usual, for its television shows. However, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association somehow liked it enough to nominate Ruffalo in this film, perhaps to make up not finding room in the best supporting actor category for his performance in “Spotlight”.
