Golden State Warriors Await News On Stephen Curry’s Injured Knee

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will undergo an MRI exam on Monday after slipping on the court and injuring his right knee against the Houston Rockets on Sunday. The Warriors defeated the Rockets 121-94 in Houston on Sunday to take a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference first-round series.

Thompson hit another 3-pointer soon after that and the Warriors scored the last eight points of the quarter to lead 97-76 entering the fourth.

USA Today spoke with “a person of knowledge”, either close to Curry or the Warriors, and confirmed that the “fear” is a sprained MCL.

Klay Thompson was the leading man with 23 points, and Andre Iguodala contributed 22 points of his own on the road.

It is hard to envision the Warriors capturing back-to-back Larry O’Brien Trophies if Curry doesn’t eventually return in these playoffs, but Golden State fans can at least take solace in the fact their team should be able to dispatch the Rockets without the defending MVP.

Bent over at the waist, Stephen Curry buried his head in his yellow shirt as Steve Kerr patted him on the back.

Still finding his rhythm, Curry missed seven-of-nine shots in the first half.

Currently, the Warriors still lead the series at 2-1, but the resilient Rockets managed to bounce back and closed the gap with a one-point victory at Game 3. The outburst came on a day Curry was held to six points on 1-for-7 shooting from long distance and 2 or 9 overall.

The Golden State Warriors had been careful with Curry the past two games, keeping him out an extended time to allow the ankle injury to heal.

“We should have played with the same energy that we did in the first half”, Howard said.

That was a signature playoff second-half performance by a Warriors team that didn’t have its signature player.

Asked about pundits picking against the Warriors without Curry, Green told ESPN Radio, “If Steph Curry’s out, I’d probably write us off, too”.

If Curry can’t go, the Warriors will look to Shaun Livingston to make a third start in his place as they try to wrap up the series on Wednesday in Oakland. The Warriors hit 8 threes, fought for every 50-50 ball and scored 41 points in the period compared to Houston’s 20. But before he could get to an actual question, Green cut him off. Patrick Beverley strained his right leg in the second quarter and did not return.
