Golden State Warriors move to 10-0 with win over Minnesota Timberwolves

After pouring in 46 more points and watching two franchise marks fall with the Warriors’ 129-116 win at Minnesota, Stephen Curry explained what has fueled the hot start.

That’s incredible to watch, but it’s even more fantastic when you look at the numbers. So then you sit there and you wonder, okay, if you don’t do those things and just try to play conventionally, he might get 60. He made 15-of-25 shots from the field, including 8-of-15 on his three-point attempts.

“He was decent tonight”. Outperforming Michael Jordan is another.

“He’s just so unsafe”.

The game was the first between the teams since the Warriors defeated Memphis 119-69 on November 2, the worst loss in franchise history.

Notes: The Warriors are the 14th team to start 10-0.

“Obviously we haven’t won the championship or anything off of that, but it definitely is a good start to the season”, Curry said of eclipsing the 9-0 start the Philadelphia Warriors had in 1960. That’s something, like I’ve said before, we just continue to fight. Green has always been the Warriors most important player because of what he does setting the defensive tone.

Goran Dragic finished with 14 points and Hassan Whiteside grabbed 14 rebounds for Miami, which started the game on a 9-0 run and opened the fourth quarter with a 13-4 spurt.

The Warriors scored the game’s first 10 points, including six by Curry. For context, Dell Curry once lead the National Basketball Association in three-point percentage (1998-99).

Curry finished the first quarter 6-for-9 from the floor, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, as the Warriors led by 40-27 after the period.

When he was on the bench, Minnesota pulled as close as 42-48 midway through the second but trailed 63-75 at the half.

Ricky Rubio of the Wolves is steadily improving and is slowly being considered one of the best guards in the league and the hype he is getting will be thoroughly tested as he will head up against the defending Most Valuable Player, Curry.

Curry scored 10 more in the third, including back-to-back threes as his team pushed the lead to their largest of the night at 21 points.

In the second edition of our weekly podcast looking back on the Thursday night TNT games from a numbers and strategy perspective, Nylon Calculus editor Seth Partnow and I discussed Clippers-Suns and Warriors-Wolves. His father played and his son would often go with him to games. He set the record at 286 made last season and it seems that record is destined to fall.

“You want to win, but at the same time to get the effort that we got tonight you can’t be too upset with a few of the performances that a few of our guys gave”, Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.

All five Warriors starters scored in double figures, from Steph Curry’s game-high 46 to Festus Ezeli’s 10.

Curry had great support from his fellow teammates with Draymond Green adding 23 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks and Klay Thompson contributing 15 points.
