Golden State Warriors stay ideal with win over Memphis Grizzlies

Stephen Curry is on the fast track to earning his second straight MVP award.

The Warriors, picking up where they left off after last spring’s championship run, improved to 10-0 Thursday for the first time in franchise history with a 129-116 road win against the Timberwolves.

The game got off to a fast start as the Warriors found themselves leading 10-0 less than two minutes into the game.

And Curry hit his share, shooting 15-of-25 from the field, including eight-of-13 from beyond the arc for Golden State, the lone remaining unbeaten team in the National Basketball Association.

The Wolves have been one of the surprise packages at this early stage of the season, but the Warriors are just on another level and I can’t see anything but a win for Golden State.

The frightening aspect of his game is that now he is shooting from deeper positions, making it nearly impossible to guard his approach to the basket.

Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and nine assists.

At 6-foot-3, Curry is nearly invisible with his movement and ball-handling while his passing range is exquisite.

Harrison Barnes scored 19 points for Golden State (9-0). So then you sit there and you wonder, okay, if you don’t do those things and just try to play conventionally, he might get 60.

Curry scored 10 more in the third, including back-to-back threes as his team pushed the lead to their largest of the night at 21 points.

Left wide open at times, Curry hit eight 3-pointers and finished 15 for 25 from the field.

“Any time he’s on the court, he’s just finding everybody for open shots, open dunks, alley-oops”, Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton said of Green.

But the Warriors, behind Curry, were able to hold off the young Timberwolves. The Warriors scored the first 10 points and jumped out to a 13-2 lead.

Brandon Knight matched his career high with 37 points, Eric Bledsoe fell an assist shy of his second career triple-double and the Phoenix Suns rolled past the severely depleted Los Angeles Clippers 118-104.

All five Warriors starters finished in double figures.

Favors led the way Thursday, scoring 25 points with 12 rebounds and seven blocks.

With Curry, Green and Andre Iguodala serving as leaders of the team, they have put it upon themselves to play hard every game.

Prior to Wednesday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry was averaging 32.4 points, 5.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals for reigning champions the Warriors, who are 8-0 so far.

However, powered by energetics Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Ricky Rubio, the Timberwolves look more like a contender in the West and enter Sunday’s meeting as favourite, while Memphis (3-6) who have lost four games in row, continue to lack inspiration.
