This was pretty easily the surprise of the day.

The lone worldwide triumph originated from Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa, who exploited a few messy play by Matt Kuchar and Patrick Reed in a 3-and-2 triumph.

Spieth, be that as it may, said he and Johnson had blessing wrapped the point to the restriction. Spieth was clearly not pleased with his performance.

Does the one-ball rule apply in other tournaments?

There were around 280 shots in this match. So when Mickelson realized he was playing with a different ball, the global team was to be awarded one hole.

But eventually the gap proved too much and Schwartzel rolled in a long birdie on the second-last for a 2&1 victory.

“It’s not their [the officials’] responsibility for me to know the rules and if I had a question I should have asked”, he told The Golf Channel.

Decision 34-2/6 of the Rules of Golf, the Committee is not allowed to have Phil go back and play in an attempt to correct the error.

“I’m a very positive guy, I like cheering him up”, Grace said of his partner. “I want to give all the credit to Sangmoon Bae today”.

This was a wild ride.

However, PGA Tour chief rules official Mark Russell told US captain Jay Haas that Mickelson actually could have played out the hole, even with the wrong ball, in fourball match play. It’s definitely a pairing that would be favored in every match, regardless of their record, and they’ll draw the International’s top man, Jason Day.

Mickelson didn’t think anything of the rule when he put a different ball in play, mainly because there is not a one-ball rule at the PGA Championship or the Ryder Cup when it is held in America. Bae secured the victory for the Internationals when he nailed a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.

In the second match, Phil Mickelson will team with Zach Johnson for a third time against Scott and Anirban Lahiri.

Fitzpatrick up one stroke at British Masters: WOBURN, England – England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick birdied the final two holes for a 7-under 64 and a one-stroke lead in the British Masters.

Here’s where things got interesting.

“It’s tough when you go out there and you see the first three or four holes, all the red and we’re done in matches, ” global captain Nick Price said.

It started with the South Africans, who are undefeated this week.

And just like that, The #PresidentsCup is tied at 4-4.

Adam Scott/Marc Leishman v Bubba Watson/J.B.

“My focus during the Presidents Cup is to do my best at each and every single match so that I can contribute to the team”. They were playing foursomes – which at the time did not allow for such a switch. Obviously those two will always put on a show off the tee, but its a consistency on the greens that has carried them throughout the first two days. The margin was their largest since a four-point lead in 2007. The worldwide team made bogey. It can happen. It’s just that it rarely does.

Eventually, Mickelson and Johnson halved the match, but if that rules violation and misinterpretation had not occurred, the USA could have won the match.
