Golf star Rory McIlroy pulls out of British Open | euronews, Sport

Ian Poulter has claimed that Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy could return a better player after his recent injury blow. Just a couple weeks ago at the U.S. Open, he was talking big, like the undisputed No. 1 player in the game.

In an interview with ESPN.com and USA Today afterward, Woods talked about having to adjust his game plan having been in the country for less than half a day. “What surfaced was like a 12-foot long, 300-pound black tip shark that had eaten this tuna and then had hooked itself, so I guess I caught both in one because I got that shark”.

Rory McIlroy was quick to pick the brain of Tiger Woods after being ruled of The Open through injury.

The 21-year-old is now Stan James’ 11/2 jolly to land his third major of the year at St Andrews. “This will be my last time, for sure, to cross the Swilcan Bridge in an Open championship”.

“I’ve skied a lot”. It was just a wonderful experience, and I loved every minute of it. We asked a lot of questions.

Mickelson, who won The Open in 2013, said playing the Scottish Open the week before was good for two reasons.

But all the serious practice could wait for another round; Woods was seemingly too wrapped up in chatting to the wannabes. “I’m quite happy with the trophy cabinet right now but I’ve left some space for extra additions”.

In other words, Spieth is doing it his way, ignoring criticism, politely of course.

“It’s not easily divined how good Jordan is until Sunday night”, Chamblee observes.

There were glimpses of the player of old at the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia last week when he fired a 67 for his first bogey-free round in two years. We don’t want to see the same person winning week in, week out and running away from everybody – they need to be challenged, and Rory himself needs to be challenged.

“It’s hugely disappointing, especially with him and Jordan and everything that’s going on”, Graeme McDowell said. Rory’s was by choice as well, the one he made on the weekend to play soccer.

“But I don’t think he did anything wrong, it was just an unfortunate situation”. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Spieth is now a 9/2 favorite to win, while Dustin Johnson has 12/1 odds and Justin Rose has 16/1 odds.

“When I come back here, I’ve always had really good support”, he said.

The two-time victor of the British Open here at the Home of Golf hosted five top-flight juniors from Europe for an advanced course in the ABCs of golf, fitness and nutrition.

That’s what has been so impressive about Spieth since he won at Augusta.

“And as far as with Rory, it’s just – we want him back”.

Spieth will have a chance to replace McIlroy at No. 1 in the world if he were to win at St. Andrews.

“I think that he really does have a legitimate shot”, unusual says.

St Helens suffered a mauling at the hands of leaders Leeds in the Super League last week but second-placed Saints are set to bounce back tomorrow (Friday) as they welcome Huddersfield to Langtree Park. “He fits it around the golf course”.
