Golfer aces final hole at tourney, buys beers for media

Rickie Fowler already was having a good first round when he came to the ninth hole (his 18th) at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. But his day got even better after this walk-off hole-in-one.

“We have had the privilege of getting to know Jordan over the last four years”, he said.

Fowler began his second round at 4-under, several strokes back from the leaders.

“I hit a lot of iron shots close that gave me birdie chances”, Goosen, a seven-times victor on the PGA Tour, told Golf Channel after taking advantage of preferred lies on a soft, receptive layout. In total, he bagged 24 birdies on the week, first in the tournament in that category, and an ace, but also squared 11 bogeys, including five today, T58 in that stat. His previous-best finish at the Quicken Loans (three starts) was T13 in 2011.

How did Fowler describe his ace post-round? He rebounded again with birdies at 14 and 16, but then he hit a horrendous shot from the fairway dead left on 17 and made another bogey.

At the head of the betting, at similar prices of around 10/1 or just under, are Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. What he got, was some fireworks we would have expected to see a few weeks ago during the 4th of July.
