ACTOR Sean Malone is in critical condition in a Massachusetts hospital after nearly drowning during a beach swim on Monday. By the time he arrived, Malone had gone underwater and Flaherty couldn’t find him.
The 54-year-old actor was pulled from the water by an off duty firefighter and three local teens after being found floating face down in the ocean off the M Street Beach.
The Boston Globe reports that a firefighter Chris Flaherty was working out with other firefighters on the beach when he became concerned at how far out Malone was swimming. The group on the boat was met by two other off-duty firefighters who were with Chris before the rescue.
Flaherty didn’t actually see Malone go under- but he knew swimming out that far could be unsafe and headed towards Malone’s position on a paddleboard.
Sean’s family expressed relief and gratitude for the rescue, but emphasized that “the incident is far from over”. A nearby boat of teens had also seen a man waving his arms in distress at the same time and they, along with the off-duty firefighter, assisted in the search.
One of the firefighters spotted Malone and administered CPR after pulling him onboard a boat.
He is the brother of Boston District Fire Chief Scott Malone.

Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald told The Boston Globe, “Sean’s family just wanted to pass on that they’re grateful for the work everyone has done so far to give Sean a chance, and they’re praying for the best”. “It’s kind of awesome that we saved a guy’s life”.
