Kei Nishikori is calm and quiet on court and a paragon of sportsmanship, but the Japanese enjoyed taking revenge against Andy Murray at the U.S. Open on Wednesday.

Amid another hard loss at the US Open, Andy Murray became angered when the chair umpire on Arthur Ashe Stadium stopped a point after a loud, gong-like noise.

After a lacklustre display in his previous round at Flushing Meadows, Murray insisted he would have to improve to overcome an in-form Dimitrov and he certainly kept his promise.

Murray seemed rattled by a call in the fourth set as he appeared poised to register an early service break but would not blame defeat on it.

The 21-year-old would have cause to feel very hard done by were he to miss out in Glasgow having reached the fourth round of the US Open but Evans has also staked a strong claim. “I don’t know if it’s been because of the Labor Day weekend, but it’s been much quieter”, Murray said.

“To be honest, I don’t care at what time it came”.

“Did it affect me?”

The American, 34, won 6-2, 6-3 to pass Roger Federer in the all-time list of matches won at the tennis majors.

Del Potro’s mindset improved against the best players in the world after beating Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at the Rio Olympics. “I think it’s more loud and it’s more like a big party on the court”.

“Tonight’s was the fastest serve I’ve hit. That was the difference”.

Murray granted a special interview regarding this quarterfinal matchup with Nishikori.

“We were told at the beginning of the event and also today that if the weather is good they will open the roof during the match”, Murray said. “But looking back to last year’s Aussie tie when he was clearly hurting and worn out but went out and gave everything, I don’t think that will change”. It’s not really for me to say. When I did win a first set that was tight and in which I didn’t play my best, I let him back into the match after I got a break early in the second set.

“You want to try and complete as many matches outdoors as possible”.

In addition to chasing a 23rd Grand Slam title – which would carry her past the Open Era record she shares with Steffi Graf, Williams needs to at least reach the final to retain her world number one ranking now that second-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany has booked her own semi-final berth.

Murray had not been sleeping well since arriving in NY, but after sleeping for 12 hours straight on Sunday night was clearly in excellent shape.

The three-time major champion twice broke back in a thrilling decider but was unable to escape a third time.

World No.2 Andy Murray has revealed that he has “not been sleeping great” ahead of his quarter-final clash against rival Kei Nishikori. Especially fifth set it was really tough.

“Kei will be feeling it, as well as a lot of the players”. I was up 4-3, 40-0 and lost the game.

Stan Wawrinka and Juan Martin del Potro will meet in the quarter-finals of the US Open after contrasting fourth round successes. Both players have been playing excellent tennis this year, but it is quite obvious Murray has the upper hand here.

Given the stage, Nishikori won’t go down without a fight. So I don’t know. Marchenko took a set.

“It’s a huge number”, Williams said of her record 308th win.
