Google Acquires Kifi to Enhance Its Spaces Group Chat App
Kifi…was built on the concept of adding context to collaboration efforts…to make organizing and using information for all sorts of group projects and interests a bit easier.

Kifi is a startup that was into building extensions to collect and search links shared in social apps and even provided recommendations for further links.
The app was launched earlier this year and had a mediocre run in the world of apps so far.
Founded in 2012, Kifi is a knowledge sharing tool for individuals and teams.
Google continues its efforts to strengthen its dominant grip on the Web as it prepares for the future of the ever-growing virtual space.
Albeit small, the acquisition shows that Google is looking at expanding its services.
The company however pointed out that the Kifi service and data will not become part of Google. Kifi reports that it will keep running its service “for the next few weeks”, after which it will only provide data exports “for a few weeks”.
After the failed experiment of building a social community with Google+, the company is now focused more on building connections using easy-to-use chat applications. The new team and Google’s existing developers will most likely tweak its link sharing and recommendation technology so that such features can be integrated into Spaces. However, thanks to a blog post by Eddie Kessler, Google’s engineering director, we do know that Kifi’s team will join forces with Google to improve the company’s group chat app, dubbed Spaces.
Another day, another Google acquisition. Other notable elements include Google boosting up its social and apps team with the purchase of Pie, an app that resembles Slack.
The mission at Kifi has always been to connect people with knowledge. “We created a service that seamlessly enables organizing, sharing, discussing, and finding the content you and your team values, which has resulted in more flexible and intuitive collaboration across the internet”, the company wrote.
The exact number of Kifi team-members joining Google is not yet known.
