Google adds a splash of Star Wars to YouTube, Gmail and more
“Star Wars” creator and original director George Lucas had little involvement with the forthcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, but he recently confirmed it to be his last film with the franchise.

Google is really going all in here, with a promise for more goodies to follow, but it’s awesome to see everything you use in the world of Google, getting themed.
On google.com/starwars, people can log into their Google accounts, choosing whether they want to join the light side or dark side. Choose the Dark Side, and you’ll see a lot of black; choose the Light, and your apps will adjust accordingly.
When watching videos on YouTube, light or dark side lightsaber transforms your seeker bar, loading bar and volume control.
Google Maps Pegman (the figure you drop to go into Street View) becomes a First Order Stormtrooper or Resistance Pilot, and then jumps into either an TIE fighter or an X-wing to guide you to your destination.
The Gmail app gets a new background depending on which side you choose as well. Google is as excited as millions of fans are, and to celebrate Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens it is giving you the chance to give Google apps and services a Star Wars makeover.
In a post announcing the promo on the company’s blog, VP of Product Management Clay Bavor said there are lots of Star Wars fans like him in the Google galaxy.
The VR experience will launch in the official Star Wars app, available on Android and iOS devices.
The company is also keeping track of the “balance of the force” by displaying which side is being chosen more over the other.

Despite leaving a few of the work until the last minute, the award-winning director is very aware that he has generations of Star Wars fans to please. Yes, the Millennium Falcon will make an appearance.
