For now Google’s Nexus devices, including the Nexus 6, 5X, 6P, 9 and Nexus Player, as well as the Google Pixel C tablet, will receive the update. Some Nexus users who have just signed up for the Beta Program are immediately receiving a 1.1GB OTA to the final version of Nougat.

Some of the biggest changes include multi-window support, new emoji, and other productivity features, including direct reply and quick switch, among others.

Google said it also worked to make the Android OS more secure with new features in Nougat, including background software updates, file-based encryption and Direct Boot to allow apps to run securely before a device is unlocked. What’s interesting over previous Android releases though is that no new Nexus devices were announced with the official Nougat release.

Because Android is open source and available across a wide range of products made by different manufacturers, the wait for a new software update can sometimes take months depending on which phone you own.

Android 7.0 Nougat: What about new Nexus launches? There are also improvements to the Doze feature introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with Doze now putting your phone into a low power state when its in your pocket or purse to help save more battery life.

Last week the giant Canadian carrier TELUS confirmed Android 7.0 Nougat would be released on August 22nd, and they were right. And when people were nearly certain that Android’s next version will be called Nutella Google surprised everyone by choosing Nougat.

” Today, we’ll begin rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Nexus devices”, said Android’s Sameer Samat. However all Nexus phones will not get this update. And, in fact, if you’re running the Developer Preview, it will automatically receive the over the air update.
