YouTube to take on Cable TV. The video giant announced “YouTube TV”, an over-the-top (OTT) service that will house live broadcast and cable channels. While the details aren’t all in, the announced specs are attractive: YouTube TV will go for $35 per month with no monthly commitment, and will offer live streaming from ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox. Shows will be stored for nine months. Its monthly fee includes six accounts, which allows each household member to have their own account with personalized recommendations.

The streaming services will not have access to channels from Viacom, including Comedy Central and MTV, and Turner Broadcasting, which means you will not be able to watch CNN, TBS, and TNT on the service. Of course the service will be available for both Android and iOS. Also, you can easily stream to your TV with a Google Chromecast or Chromecast built-in TV. It’s unclear as of now whether the service will be expanded to other regions later on or it’s US-only. So now, instead of purchasing YouTube Red, subscribers can simply choose the YouTube TV subscription and get access to all the original content of YouTube Red.
YouTube TV app will be available sometime in Spring. That’s more than three times the price of Netflix, but it’s cheaper than what you’d pay for a cable bundle containing that lineup of networks.
Additionally, subscribers receive access to YouTube Red original content. YouTube launched Red, an ad-free $9.99/month subscription service in October 2015. Millennials love great TV content, but what YouTube has seen is they don’t want to watch it in the traditional setting. Those interested in the service can sign up to be notified when the option launches in their area.
