Google brings its Expeditions VR for 15 more cities

Students at Desert Hot Springs High School journeyed to Mt. Fuji, London, the Great Barrier Reef and the CERN Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland Monday as part of Google Expeditions, a virtual reality pilot program. Teachers can choose from more than 120 tours of places such as Antarctica, the Acropolis or the Borneo Rainforest – and the list keeps growing as we work with our content partners to create more. Since the debut of the program in September of this year, over 100,000 students have used Expeditions in their classes.

With all that fun kit available, and plenty of exotic faraway places to explore, we can well imagine Expeditions is proving a hit with not only students, but teachers too. Then the tech giant will also be adding three new countries: Canada, where it’ll be in Toronto, as well as Denmark and Singapore. In the USA, we’ll be in Alexandria, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City and Washington DC. Schools receive an Expeditions Kit, complete with Asus smartphones, Google Cardboard, a router, and a tablet so the teacher can control the experience. With the announcement of the expansion, Google has revealed that they will now be expanding the program to 15 new cities, a few of which are in worldwide markets.

The best thing is that the Expeditions Program offered by Google is free of all charges, getting to schools that couldn’t afford to offer this experience to their students.
