Google Cardboard to offer Star Wars episodes in virtual reality

Yesterday, Google launched a “Star Wars“-themed browser tool kit fans can customize”.

More goodies are on the way between now and the movie’s premiere, too, including a virtual reality experience for Google Cardboard and a Star Wars Chrome experiment.

TV host Jimmy Kimmel has called the new Star Wars movie the “most anticipated sequel I think since the New Testament”, adding that “Americans know more about Star Wars than we do actual wars”. Google has, ahead of the release of the latest Star Wars movie, released Dark Side and Light Side themes that pay tribute to one of the most iconic movie franchises of all times. Other notable changes are Gmail loading as a lightsaber and the location marker on Maps that becomes an X-wing.

After months of back and forth as he decided whether to sign up, Adam was eventually on board, but even then he wasn’t open about it. In fact, he made a decision to keep the job a secret from his wife – something which was blown when J.J. assumed he’d told her and announced the news in the press.

It looks like Google is really getting into the Star Wars fever. This day has been dubbed by endearing Star Wars fans as May the Fourth Be With You.

The search giant is teaming up with Disney to release a series of virtual reality “experiences” based on the sci-fi blockbusters series.

ILMxLAB, a laboratory for immersive entertainment from Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, created the Virtual Reality content. If you do plan to get in on that VR action and do not have a Cardboard yet, Google is selling them. By using Google Cardboard, they plan to deliver Star Wars content to users come December 2.
