Google celebrates 69th Independence Day with Doodle on homepage

Notably, last year the Google posted a doodle on its homepage featuring the independent India’s first stamp, commemorating the 68th Independence Day. Also accessible is a particular assortment of photographs and artefacts from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

The midnight hour of 15th August, 1947 is still remembered for the “Tryst With Destiny” speech by India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.

The national flag of India, the mighty tricolor or the “Tiranga”, Deep saffron (kesaria) at the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion.

Other historic places included in the virtual tour include Lahori Gate, the main gate to the Red Fort and named after its orientation towards the city of Lahore. This collection is a part of Google Cultural Institute division’s showcase of India’s freedom struggle.

Indian could also visit the majestic Aga Khan Palace built in 1892, which served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi from 1942. Mahatma Gandhi led the Dandi March from his Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi in Gujarat. “The tour will take the users through some of the iconic landmarks that witnessed India’s independence movement on Google Maps”, Google said in a statement.
