Google could unveil 2nd generation Chromecast at Nexus event on Sept 29

9to5google also found that the next Chromecast might have better WiFi connection, which could mean that it supports the 802.11ac band. The new Chromecast is tipped to feature faster Wi-Fi inside of its new shell. And if it does indeed have faster Wi-Fi and a price point similar to the original Chromecast, I’m sure a lot of folks will happily upgrade.

The design is kind of unfortunate, or at least seems like it in these images, but this thing will reportedly offer some significant improvements over the original Chromecast. We speculate that if introduced, this feeds feature would most likely be a backwards compatible as it’s a fairly easy to implement software addition.

In a bid to put more relevant content within the system’s main interface, this new version will purportedly bring support for customized content feeds on the home screen interface. 9to5Google says Chromecast Audio will have multi-room support, will be able to mirror your Chrome or Android audio, and will boast “high-quality” sound. The HDMI streaming player also supports Netflix and Pandora. Expect the next Chromecast, which is internally referred to as “new Chromecast”, at the same event alongside the Nexus duo.

Another device, dubbed “Chromecast Audio” aimed as an Audio companion for speakers will apparently also make an appearance, with the device possibly plugging into speakers via an auxillary cable.

It has been nearly two years since Chromecast, the little dongle like device from Google hit the markets and surpassed all expectations of people from it. Now according to internal documents received by 9to5google, next generation Chromecast is on its way and may get launched in the upcoming September 29 event of Google where two new Nexus phones are also supposed to be launched.
