New Delhi: Director of special effects and the pioneer of monster movies, Eiji Tsuburaya has been accredited with creating the Ultraman, co-creating Godzilla, and bringing the live action genre “Toksatsu” to the global cinematic mainstream. Through his monster movies, he coined a style called Tokusatsu, a Japanese form of live action film.

Tsubaraya passed away in 1970, but his distinctive influence on special effects lives on in films like Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and even the Power Rangers. Instead of using the stop-motion technique of Willis O’Brian’s 1933 iconic King Kong, Tsuburaya put a man in a rubber suit to create his giant monster.

To this day, he is still regarded as the “Godfather” of Japanese special effects – an area of the film industry in which Japan led the way for decades. After the war, due to his involvement with the war effort, he found work hard to come by – going freelance, he set up his own company, and went on to work on a number of legendary films. The game allows you to break houses, stamp on tanks and annihilate planes to make a small custom monster movie of your own at the end. He made 250 films in total, but Godzilla won him several accolades.
