Google doodle recalls 1st Olympic Games on 120th anniversary
It was officially titled the “Games of the I Olympiad”, with Greece considered an appropriate venue given it was where the inception of the Games occured.

Google has chosen to celebrate the 120 birthday of the summer Olympics on April 6 with a doodle.
It may be recalled that in the first official Olympics, 9 different sports and 43 events were held including a marathon in which the greatest number of worldwide athletes ever participated.
Google has unveiled a set of four new “doodles” with Victorian athletes standing in for letters on its homepage today, in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the first running of the “modern” Olympic Games. A different Olympic doodle is displayed whenever you refresh your Google homepage. Today’s Google Doodle is designed by Olivia Huynh.
The Games had the largest global participation of any sporting event to that date.

Originating in Ancient Greece as one of two central rituals, the Olympics were held between city-states in order to appease Zeus, with the first Olympic dating back to 776 BC.
