Google Drive Plug-In for Microsoft Office Now Available
Building on this open approach, we recently made it possible to launch your favorite desktop applications directly from Google Drive. Now it looks like they have come to an agreement to work together, albeit slightly, with Google Drive’s new plug-in for Microsoft Office.

There’s an interesting bit of speculation making the rounds about recent activity between Microsoft and Google. “This is especially useful for sharing files with teams, or for accessing your files across devices”. The simple plug-in will allow you to save your Word, Excel, or Powerpoint presentations directly to Google Drive from within Microsoft Office. Between Google Apps and Microsoft Office there’s a war going on in an to control the digital business-place across the planet. Until now you had to hunt down your file in Drive, download it, open it, edit it, save it, then upload the new file back to Drive.
If you are a heavy Microsoft Office user but still like to store your work on Google Drive this is what you’ve been waiting for. If for some reason you’re a Drive loyalist who also loves using Office, this tool just might make your life easier; it should be available to install today.

Still, it’s a nice feature many users are sure to appreciate. With Microsoft heavily pushing versions of its Office suite across any and all platforms, for instance, Google needs to develop new ways to keep its services in front of users.
