Google Duo Hits 5 Million Android Downloads in Just One Week

The app has been removed from the Play Store, and anyone that already has it installed is being greeted by a “Detected Issues” card that reads “Device Assist is shutting down”. The official Google Apps blog quietly announced today that an updated version of the old Hangouts extension will be available soon, with a user interface that looks nearly identical to the current Chrome app (if the screenshot above is accurate). Instead, Google is directing Android users to check out a dedicated website with tips and tricks on it.

Following the announcement of Allo, Google reiterated that Hangouts would remain as an enterprise-focussed messaging solution. The program brought low-priced stock Android devices to developing markets around the world. The Google Duo will soon support audio-only calls which makes it more beneficial for the mobile users. Most Android manufacturers tend to layer devices with their own skin or theme of Android – fragmenting the experience across Android users.
