Google is expanding Assistant to new devices

Amazon Video content can be streamed in 4K, while there are also plans for 4K HDR streaming support for both Netflix and YouTube, which should be good news for gamers wanting to get their Let’s Play fix in 4K. Using the GeForce Now streaming feature, users can stream games from their Nvidia GeForce graphics card-packing PC to their nearby TV.

While Nvidia did not talk about the hardware changes in the new Shield TV, it did mention that the streamer offers 3x the performance of competing, unnamed devices on the market. In addition to the updated industrial design the new SHIELD TV ships with a game controller in addition to a remote, adding value to what NVIDIA is calling “the world’s most advanced streamer”.

“We’re excited to be part of the new Shield TV, powered by the Android TV platform”.

An open platform, SHIELD gives you access to vast game libraries, and now includes Ubisoft’s deep catalog of AAA titles.

UPDATE: Press release are now out and NVIDIA Spot units will cost $49.99 a piece. However, it will not be the only Android TV device to gain integrated access to Google Assistant as shortly after the NVIDIA announcement, Google announced that the Google Assistant is coming to Android TV in general.

The box marks the first time Google Assistant will work with televisions. Other commands on Android TVs will also be supported in order to play and discover content, and get answers after searching online for information. The previous Shield Android TV becomes end of line immediately.

Google’s Assistant so far lives its virtual life in only a few locations, like on the Pixel and Pixel XL flagship smartphones, and on Google Home.

Nvidia wowed fans at the Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show on 4 January 2017 with the introduction of several new products, which we outline here. The device functions much like Google Home or Amazon’s Echo, in that it’s a smart speaker listening for your commands.
