In the aftermath of the appalling terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday evening, Google is doing what it can to help those of us outside France get in touch with friends and family who may have been caught up in the awful events. To help communicate with friends and family, tech companies such as Microsoft and Google have made Skype and Hangout calls free for a few days, respectively.

Close on the heels of Google’s announcement, leading U.S. wireless carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint also said that they are allowing their customers to make “free” calls to their near and dear ones in France. Users can take advantage of free calling from their PCs, smartphones and tablets.
There are however, a few caveats – calls to non-geographical numbers, special and premium services will not be treated as free calls. Although Skype has made calling free, Internet and mobile fees may still apply.
Hangouts calls can be made via the Android app, iOS app, and the Web.
The Google+ post simply states: “We’re thinking of you, Paris”.

“Social media has become an important environment not just for socializing casually, but also for offering support, spreading the latest news, organizing volunteer efforts and keeping tabs on loved ones in times of great distress, such as the recent attacks in Paris”, Tech Times reported.
