The company said it now had two gigawatts of renewable energy projects, with a goal of tripling its renewables purchases to power 100 per cent of its operations with clean energy by 2025.

Google yesterday announced it will purchase 842 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, almost a doubling of the power it’s purchased to date and taking the company to 2 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy.
Google was one of 13 large companies that collectively invested more than $140 billion in new clean energy projects in July as part of the American Business Act on Climate Pledge.
Google’s commitment to renewable energy also greatly contributes to giant energy companies such as EDF, Duke and RES (Renewable Energy Systems) Americas as it helps the finances to continue building further facilities.
With the new agreements, Mountain View signed contracts with the energy companies that range from 10 to 20 years, which it hopes will foster more widespread adoption and help the power providers expand their facilities. Both Germany and France are growing more aggressive concerning solar power, which may secure the growth of this sector in the coming years.
Solar power has overtaken biomass-based power generation to become India’s 2nd largest renewable energy technology in terms of installed capacity.
Google’s latest move doesn’t just benefit their bottom line-it’s also a benefit to a clean energy future. Google isn’t disclosing how much it expects to pay for the power.

Principal of energy and global infrastructure at Google, Michael Terrell said in an interview that it is the biggest and most diverse acquisition of renewable energy by a non-utility. The tech giant has had plans to power all of their 14 data centers with renewable energy. That energy will be entirely clean, arriving from solar plants, wind farms, and other renewable energy sources. We are also very humble, yet proud, for the fact that Google once again signs a PPA with Eolus to provide the data center in Finland with renewable electricity says Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus.
