Google Maps for Android Update Brings Street View Thumbnails and More

Earlier this year, Google tried experimenting with a food photography service called Tablescape but shut it down later with a promise that its influence might be seen in future apps. Google wants the new feature for the Android version of Google Maps to become reminiscent of Tablescape.

The Google Maps app will let you post food photos, but the company has not yet revealed anything about its official roll out to everyone.

Like Tablescape, the new food photography feature in Google Maps is initially available only to Google’s Local Guides. These users receive an alert when Google Maps finds that they’ve taken a food-related photo, and it prompts them to attach that photo to a location.

The new feature could impact on businesses who will see their online image defined by users. The feature is rolling out to local guides of level 3 and higher first. Those who qualify for the feature can snap photos of food and drinks at a restaurant or bar.

So while it’s not a full-fledged app, it seems like Google has found a smart and useful way to keep food photography in the fold after all.

If you are a foodie and try different foods at different restaurants and like to take snapshot of your food before you eat, then there is good news for you folks, because Google has something for you.

And now for the local treat – it appears Google is planning to get Delhi’s public transport routes and schedules integrated into the Maps app. Android Police performed a teardown of Google Maps app v9.12, and noticed code that points to this upcoming feature.
