Google will still launch two new phones this year, the HTC Nexus Marlin and Sailfish that we keep seeing in leaks.
The successors to the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X and flagbearers for Android 7.0 Nougat are expected to launch this autumn. The popular Nexus smartphones and the Nexus tablet will, most probably, drop the “Nexus” badge and probably come with a new name. In a conversation with Re/Code and Verge’s Walt Mossberg, Pichai said they will be investing more effort into their Nexus smartphones.
Android Nougat is finally available on a select few devices and the seventh iteration of Android brings along with it a slew of new features. The new handsets will be reportedly marketed under a new brand name, and they will be accompanied by a new Android experience, Android Central reports, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of Google plans.
Also the upcoming handsets will have additional software and a modified interface. According to the latest reports, Google Nexus 2016 will be revealed late next month or early October. Of the two, the Sailfish is expected to be a 5-inch device while the Marlin will be a larger screened mobile, both with a more streamlined design than previous more utilitarian looking Nexus devices.
Last week, Google released Android 7 Nougat into the wild. Tech Times also mentioned in a report that since the port is still pretty much a work in progress, it should not be flashed on your Nexus 4 if you’re using it as a daily driver.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the news site says that a different brand name is in the pipeline this year.
