Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X: What you need to know
This has been a hallmark feature of Google’s phones since the Nexus 4 in 2012.

Google claim that the Nexus 6P is their most premium phone yet, and that’s true for a number of reasons. The phone, which was manufactured by Huawei and starts at $499, has a 5.7-inch screen – slightly smaller than the 6-inch Nexus 6 phone it’s replacing. The smartphone has a 12.3MP rear camera that supports 4K recording and can capture videos at 240 frames per second.
Starting with the Nexus 5X, as its name suggests, this essentially is an updated, more powerful version of the LG Nexus 5, which was launched in 2013.
“There’s also a new fingerprint sensor called Nexus Imprint which will also open up fingerprint recognition to the entire app ecosystem”. They also have a reversible USB Type-C port with quick charge technology. While the company doesn’t categorically mention India, we expect it to be among the first in line to get the new Nexus smartphone. Interestingly, Google has chose to ditch wireless charging in both Nexus phones this year. The Nexus 5X starts at 9 and will ship in late October.
As you’d expect, the Nexus 5X is a 5.2-inch device once again offering a top bollocks phone for a fraction of the cost of other similar smartphones on the market. There will also be three different storage sizes available: 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB (which is fantastic).
There is also a new DOZE state which automatically shuts down more processes to extend the battery life.
Most of the technical specifications of the Nexus 6P were revealed by the leaks and reports that surfaced online over the past couple of months, so the Mountain View-based giant’s press announcement hardly surprised anyone today.
According to Google vice-president of engineering, Dave Burke, the 6P’s 8-megapixel front-facing camera is capable of taking “the world’s best selfies”.
Again, the Nexus 6P gets a fingerprint scanner and is charged via USB-C, which Google reckon will fill the phone twice as fast as Apple’s latest iPhone 6s Plus. Nexus Protect is $69 for the 5X, $89 for the 6P.
