Past experience has told us not to expect a top-tier smartphone from the Huawei-made Nexus 6P sold by Google. Both will only have the 64GB aluminium version, both for AU$999.
The cheaper option is the 5X, built by LG, with a 5.2 inch screen in a compact, lighter package. The camera also features 1.55 µm pixel size, with geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. Upfront, the 6P gets a pair of stereo speakers that manage to put most Bluetooth speakers to shame. “By the time I’ve gotten the phone out of my pocket and up to my face, the screen is on and it’s unlocked”. The bezels on the device at the top and bottom are somewhat large but it is understandable as the bottom bezel houses the new fingerprint scanner, which is embedded into the capacitive home button. With the 6P, that’s not the case.

Despite that, the handset feels impressively solid. Unlike the 6P, though, the 5X doesn’t get that ugly strip across its camera. The 6P weighs a very manageable 6.3 ounces. It can make you want an Android device instead of an iPhone.
Unlike other Type-C smartphones like the OnePlus 2, the 5X comes with a doubled-ended Type-C lead, on the upside this means you can use the 5X to share power with another Type-C compatible smartphone, on the downside it means that you can use the phone’s power adapter with an standard USB lead.
The support for fingerprint authentication comes right after Google started rolling out the redesigned Play Store, with a completely new UI and app categories.
