Google offering consumers faster mobile pages
What is particularly great about the AMP inclusion on WordPress is the fact that the platform’s users don’t even have to do anything to enable it. Automattic has even created a dedicated AMP plugin for self-hosted users in order for them to be able to enjoy the benefits of the new technology, reported The Next Web. Wall Street Journal reports that the search engine giant has begun to include links to Accelerated Mobile Pages in its search results. The answer was the Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) project aiming to replicate the Facebook Instant Article feature on the open web.

AMP load an average of four times faster and use 10 times less data than equivalent non-AMP pages. Also if you want to contribute check out the github code. That means that hosted WordPress users will get super-fast page loads when visitors come to their sites from Google results and they don’t need to change anything. He cited research indicating that people typically abandoned mobile Web pages if they take more than a few seconds to appear. The project was started by the company with just about 30 publishers from around the world which included Twitter, Pinterest, WordPress.com, Chartbeat, Parse.ly, Adobe Analytics and LinkedIn.
Facebook in December said that it had signed up 350 global media partners for its service tailored for Apple and Android devices. The company is following similar efforts from Facebook, the largest driver of traffic to news sites. The webpages loaded through AMP will be a lightweight version of the original web-page, which will load swiftly and will not be cluttered so that the user can sift through with relative ease.

And, until the worldwide web crumbles under the pressure, Google is going to play favorites by giving preference to AMP-affiliated news outlets.
